At Covenant, we believe our spiritual lives are fully intertwined with all other aspects of life. We strive for a spiritual life that is no different than the essence of life itself. What makes a life spiritual has to do with the attitude that we bring to everything we do. If we are able to recognize the ever-presence of God in all we do, no matter if it’s playing with a child, painting a house or pouring a glass of water, if we do it with a sense of an awareness of our ever-present God, then it becomes spiritual.
Each Sunday throughout the year we offer two services of worship.
Our Regular Sunday Schedule
8:30 a.m. Communion Service (by intinction)
This service is a smaller and a more quiet traditional service where Holy Communion is celebrated weekly by intinction (coming forward taking a piece of bread and dipping it in the cup). The sacrament forms the basis for this hour and we prepare with hymns, sermon, and prayers. The service music is a form of prayer, a contemplative backdrop for the Communion service and its component parts. Spirituality, quiet, and focus are the characteristics of this service.
11:00 a.m. Traditional Worship Service (Communion – first Sunday of every month)
This service is full of energy and is also a traditional Presbyterian worship service, including hymns and prayers, with the central event being the proclamation of the Word in sermon. All portions of the service, including liturgy, the anthem, hymns and service music, help to expand upon the theme of the sermon, addressing the needs of the spirit, mind and heart. Although the Presbyterian hymnal and classical music provide much of the service music, most of the anthems and hymns are familiar. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, following a traditional format for the sacrament.
In addition to Palm Sunday, services include:
7:00 p.m. Wednesday night Vespers
7:00 p.m. Maundy Thursday service
12:00 noon Good Friday Service
7:00 a.m. Easter Sunrise Service (on the grounds)
7:45 a.m. Hot cross buns & coffee
8:30 a.m. Communion Worship
11:00 a.m. Worship
7:00 p.m., Sunday closest to December 21st.
This is a service for healing and wholeness.
5:00 p.m. Family Friendly Christmas Eve Candlelight service.
9:00 p.m. Candlelight Communion Service
Ways to serve in worship
Greeters – Individuals welcome members and newcomers to Sunday morning worship.
Children’s Church – Members enjoy time with our younger membes (3 – 7 years old) during the second half of our 11:00 service.
Sacristy Guild – teams of two volunteers to set-up communion for the 11:00 service on the first Sunday of each month. Each team serves on a rotating basis.
Faith Formation Hour
Sunday School is offered each Sunday from 9:45 – 10:45 for all ages
Children’s Education classes are divided into two groups: The Preschool class, and an elementary class (1st – 4th grades). We currently use the Feasting On The Word lectionary-based curriculum from the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation.
Our youth (6th-12th grade) meet on Sunday mornings, in the upper rooms. We follow the lectionary readings and worship themes using the Feasting On The Word curriculum. The Youth Fellowship program at Covenant focuses largely on relational ministry. We meet bi-weekly for fellowship from 5-7PM on Sunday evenings. Each Wednesday evening we have Devotional Time during Wednesday Evening Fellowship and throughout the year we, serve in missions, enjoy fun events, and even support each other through-out the week in our many curricular activities.
We believe being a faithful Christian doesn’t mean checking your brain at the door, or that having faith requires that you stop asking questions. On Sunday mornings we offer two adult classes, both using the lectionary as our focus. The Parlor class ends a little earlier in order for folks to prepare for worship leadership. Both classes use the Feasting On The Word curriculum. There are numerous opportunities throughout the week for continued adult learning.
9:30 – 9:45 a.m., First Sunday of each month
We also have occasional covered dish luncheons, or special teas following the 11:00 a.m. worship.
Celebration Sunday during our first Sunday breakfast brings the whole congregation together once a month for a focused lesson, birthday celebrations, and singing.
John McCrosky is our full-time Director of Christian Education and would be happy to talk with you about any of our educational opportunities. You can also talk with any of the volunteer teachers for more information.
