At Covenant, we believe our spiritual lives are fully intertwined with all other aspects of life. We strive for a spiritual life that is no different than the essence of life itself. What makes a life spiritual has to do with the attitude that we bring to everything we do. If we are able to recognize the ever-presence of God in all we do, no matter if it’s playing with a child, painting a house or pouring a glass of water, if we do it with a sense of an awareness of our ever-present God, then it becomes spiritual.

Each Sunday throughout the year we offer two services of worship.

Our Regular Sunday Schedule

8:30 a.m. Communion Service (by intinction)

This service is a smaller and a more quiet traditional service where Holy Communion is celebrated weekly by intinction (coming forward taking a piece of bread and dipping it in the cup).
The sacrament forms the basis for this hour and we prepare with hymns, sermon, and prayers. The service music is a form of prayer, a contemplative backdrop for the Communion service and its component parts. Spirituality, quiet, and focus are the characteristics of this service.

11:00 a.m. Traditional Worship Service (Communion – first Sunday of every month)
This service is full of energy and is also a traditional Presbyterian worship service, including hymns and prayers, with the central event being the proclamation of the Word in sermon. All portions of the service, including liturgy, the anthem, hymns and service music, help to expand upon the theme of the sermon, addressing the needs of the spirit, mind and heart. Although the Presbyterian hymnal and classical music provide much of the service music, most of the anthems and hymns are familiar. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, following a traditional format for the sacrament.

Childcare is available in Room 12 for infants through 3 years old. Our paid nursery workers are available from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. each Sunday. Childcare is also available during special services.
Children’s Worship packets for ages 3-6 and 7-12 are available from the ushers. Following the “Time with the Young Church” during the 11:00 service, children ages 3-5 are invited to attend children’s church in Room 14.
Large print hymnals and hearing aids are available on the credenza at the rear of the sanctuary. An usher will be happy to assist you.

Sunday School

Sunday School is offered each Sunday from 9:45 – 10:45 for all ages

Children
Children’s Education classes are divided into two groups: The Preschool class, and an elementary class (1st – 4th grades). We currently use the new Growing in Grace & Gratitude curriculum from the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation.

Youth
Our youth (6th-12th grade) meet on Sunday mornings, in the upper rooms. Every 6 weeks through the school year, this class will focus on a new topic facilitated by adults who desire to share their love for the youth. The Youth Fellowship program at Covenant focuses largely on relational ministry. We enjoy monthly meals in member homes, serve in missions, enjoy fun events, and even support each other through-out the week in our many extra currulular activities.

Adult education
We believe being a faithful Christian doesn’t mean checking your brain at the door, or that having faith requires that you stop asking questions. Starting in September 2015 we are revamping our opportunities for Sunday morning adult education by offering 2 topical classes, each about 6 weeks. Each class is unique in what it offers and is open to anyone who wishes to participate – no matter your age or experience.

Special Services

Potluck Breakfast
9:30 – 9:45 a.m., First Sunday of each month
We also have occasional covered dish luncheons, or special teas following the 11:00 a.m. worship.

Taizé Service
12:15-12:45 p.m., On Wednesdays 3 times throughout the year
This is a service of prayer and music that follows the liturgical practice of the Taizé Community in France—a non-denominational, non-sectarian religious community devoted to prayer and spirituality. This service is contemplative, quiet, and a wonderful pause in the hectic busy-ness that has become modern life, a chance to pray for ourselves and others through words, song, and silence.

7:00 p.m. Wednesday night Vespers
7:00 p.m. Maundy Thursday service
12:00 noon Good Friday Service

Other ways to serve in worship

Lay Liturgists/Lay Readers – Congregation members are encouraged to participate in worship by calling the congregation to worship, leading prayer, and reading scripture. Participation time averages twice a quarter.

Greeters – Individuals welcome members and newcomers to Sunday morning worship.

Children’s Church – Members enjoy time with our younger membes (3 – 7 years old) during the second half of our 11:00 service.

Ushers – ushers help to greet and seat arriving congregants as well as assist in receiving the offering.

Sacristy Guild – teams of two volunteers to set-up communion for the 11:00 service on the first Sunday of each month. Each team serves on a rotating basis.

John McCrosky is our full-time Director of Christian Education and would be happy to talk with you about any of our educational opportunities. You can also talk with any of the volunteer teachers for more information.
